NAIJALOADED ALBUM REVIEW: Here Is What We Think About Olamide’s ”Lagos Na Wa”

Nigerians expectation of Olamide’s yearly ritual of dropping a new project may have finally gotten to the YBNL boss who probably in a bid not to disappoint his fans for an almost non-existent year, cooked up an album in 48hours.

At a time in the nation where rappers are being called out for their confused and lazy spirit as to doing their quota in building and sustaining the rap game in the country, Olamide, who has on countless occasions fought his way to be seen as one of the respected in the rap game, decided to drop a joke of an album, with 2 rap songs in the 17 track album, like bruv WYD!

With his 7th album’s plan of making an attempt at, Olamide maybe not intentionally comically reaffirmed our thoughts about his dwindling hold on making good music as this 17 track of further proves it. We know a good number of Nigerians love to dance but be reminded sir that a sizeable part of these same people actually love music with great content…..create music that every one of your fans would love, it’s simple maths

Despite his stubbornness as to ‘wanting’ to pay homage to the city that made him who he is today, with the ‘danfo color’ inspired album art and his knack for groovy sound, Olamide, did more harm than good on his image.

ALBUM INFO

Album -Lagos Na Wa

Artist – Olamide

Record Label – YBNL (2017)

Duration – 55.79 minutes

Lets get started with the Album Tracks review.

1. FE NU SHEY

For a song that has him pushing it down our throats that he is ‘king of the streets’ and can either sing or rap, whichever the fans desire, it came as a surprise this message was communicated in a voice that reminded one of a mice caught in a trap by its tail

2.RADIO LAGOS

Sees a record, considered to have grown a thick skin singing about gossips in a voice that sounded like Kevin Hart in distress. This track talked mostly about gossips who monitored one’s everyday life. I doubt any artiste of any level would ever need to record such, talk-less of an artiste at the top of the food chain in the industry.

3. YA GAGA

Ehn yeah we know, how about we employ new words to communicate.

4. THE ONE

One of the love songs on the album that further proved one’s need to consider the thin line between sentiments and mental state.

5. ORO PAWPAW

This song basically talks about haters saying he would never attain success…this is your 7th studio album, you are still one of the most talked about acts in the industry and even gave out millions a few months back, did you really think this song was necessary? 7th sir!!

6. BEND IT OVER FT REMINISCE

This is one of the two tracks that made it for me on this project majorly due to the beat, chorus and Reminisce’s part[his most vulgar verse yet]. Oh, and why promote commercial sex, sir?

7. SHINE

Another beautiful track on the album….to ba wun mi ma gbe OLOSHO lo Dubai….okay, Wehdone sir! His rap mini came on strong on here, but was overshadowed by his ‘mummy’ like need to cuss out industry players and really no chorus?

8. SAYSAYMALEY

Three words for this track….wearisomely painful and sad.

9. MO JE DODO

PASS!!!

10. LAGOS NA WA

Another mundane track

11. EVERYDAY IS NOT A CHRISTMAS

This song will make it to the hall of fame for ‘wackiest songs ever in the history of music making’

12. On A MUST BUZZ FT PHYNO

Reminded me a little of Qdot Alaga….nice song but made me question a lot of things.

13. SHANKO BABY

Olamide did a nice job desecrating the eardrums of many humans who were unfortunate to listen to this.

14. FINE FINE BABY

This is an obvious case of calling in a favour…helped you once, your time to pay back. Tiwa’s verse may have helped salvage the altogether ear sore a cringe-worthy listen.

15. WO

Oh well…highlight of his entire 48hours work

16. ENIMIMOMI

Good song

17. WO SPRIRITUAL

I want to believe this was meant to be a joke than an actual song. He did not need to make his listeners feel like fools, come on now Olamide!

OUR VERDICT

Tope Delamo:

The producer came through on this album, he did a good job. For the lyrics, theme, delivery and intentions, we doubt much thinking and planning were employed. There were moments of goodness in this project but one would need to dig through the pile of rubbish it’s filled with.

Makinde Azeez:

I duff my hat for Olamide any day any time… He’s the true definition of the word “Talented”.

7 Album in the space of 7 years is no joke and only the truly endowed can do something magnificent like this.

However, truth be told, I expected more from the Album but still kudos to him, it’s all love.

My Favorite tracks on the Album is Shanko Baby, Fe Nu Shey Street, and WO!!!

Komolafe Daniel:

Let’s drop sentiments here and face reality, Listen to all Olamide’s Old album project to Lagos Nawa and see what ‘m pointing out. I think the rush of Lagos Nawa really affected the album which in turn didn’t live up to the hype.

Finally, as for me, THE ONE, WO & WO spiritual are the 3 songs I will pick as exceptional out of the whole 17 tracks. By the ways shout out to Young John, the ever wicked producer

Oluwafemi Hills:

Look I can come here and criticize and say whatever I want, Olamide will still smile to the bank, yet the release of ‘Lagos Nawa’ album shows the rapper is on a down-ward spiral and much of that is due to his anxiety to release songs after songs.

And even the release of this album questions the ‘Rapper’ tag I used to describe him.

I mean, a 17-track album with only 3 rap songs for a so-called rapper?! The snake has swallowed the pig.

Olamide, 28, seems to be pretty occupied with just dishing out songs for the fun it. He doesn’t look interested anymore…. Listen to Saysaymaley & Shankobaby from the album among others and tell me you disagree.

Adedeji Balogun:

Olamide really fall my hand for this one.

It has been a great one ever since he started releasing albums all the way from Rapsodi, YBNL, Baddest Guy Ever Liveth, Street OT till this new one ‘Lagos Nawa!’.

Well, the only track I fell in love with on this project is ‘Wo Spiritual.’

Imagine, he recorded the full album in 48 hours and you guys expect something great #Issokay.

I’m not trying to criticize his effort but honestly, this album doesn’t come close to his genius on Rapsodi and other albums by him.

Overall, We rate the album 4/10 ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆
